Our Beginning
At Harley’s House Rescue, we are a compassionate refuge for abandoned and neglected ducks, offering them a second chance at life. Our journey began with the rescue of Harley, a tiny mallard duckling left behind by his mother, struggling to survive on his own.
However, the process of nurturing Harley also opened our eyes to a broader issue. Researching how to provide the best care for him, we discovered the troubling reality of domestic ducks facing abandonment and neglect. As we delved deeper into understanding the needs of ducks, we became acutely aware of the challenges domestic ducks encounter.
The realization of this plight inspired us to take action. Harley’s unwavering, sweet spirit inspired us to create a nurturing sanctuary for ducks facing similar adversities, and thus, Harley’s House Rescue was born.
Our Purpose
Harley’s House Rescue is more than just a rescue; it’s a labor of love. A small, family-run 501(c)(3) non-profit that has a profound love for animals! Our sanctuary, located in Indianapolis IN, is a place where ducks in distress find a safe haven, solace, care, and the warmth of companionship.
Many of these beautiful creatures endure unfortunate circumstances, often after being purchased from farm supply stores. Frequently, people acquire them as adorable ducklings, unaware of the commitment and care required to raise them. The charm of their fluffy feathers and playful quacks often overshadow the responsibilities and commitments that lie ahead.
As they grow older and their needs change, some ducks are sadly abandoned to fend for themselves in the wild, where they lack the necessary survival skills, including the ability to fly. Others face neglect in captivity, deprived of the care and attention they deserve.
At Harley’s House Rescue, we recognize that every life is precious, and every quack carries a unique story of resilience. We tend to the physical and emotional well-being of each resident duck, ensuring they feel secure and loved in our care.
Through our rescue efforts, we strive to raise awareness about the significance of responsible duck ownership. We hope to inspire others to embrace these delightful beings with the love and respect they deserve.
